Chaplaincy Program |
|
Wandin Yallock Primary School has enjoyed the Chaplaincy Programme within the school for several years for one day per week. We are now really pleased to have a Chaplain in the school for two full days each week. This project was funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Early Childhood Development under the National School Chaplaincy Programme School. Community members may choose to participate in the Chaplaincy Program of their own free will. The role of the Chaplain This is a unique role within the school community. The chaplain is able to support students, families, staff and the wider school community, offering pastoral care and support as required and contributing to the overall well-being of our community members. There is opportunity to encourage, simply listen and also connect people to more specific agencies if necessary, giving a real extra dimension to the well-being team. The chaplain can enhance and help develop spiritual awareness for those who are searching or troubled. Our Chaplain Hi I’m Vonnie the Chaplain. I’ve been part of the school community for just over a year now and feel very privileged to be able to offer support and encouragement to anyone in the school who needs a bit of extra help. I’ve worked around primary schools first as a parent and volunteer, then more recently as a teacher, before starting at Wandin Yallock in the chaplaincy role. My faith motivates me to value each individual and celebrate their uniqueness. My days are really varied, sharing in class news times, or helping alongside children as they work in class. I also work individually with students or facilitate small groups to attend to particular needs, like developing social skills, helping with managing anxiety, stress or anger. You may find me around the playground at recess helping younger students with their play skills or chatting over lunch with older students or working out new strategies for calmer bedtimes with Mums who are waiting at the end of the day. I’m here to lend a listening ear, for students and families and to help children celebrate their special news and achievements.
